Plumbing repair is an activity that most home owners can't avoid. The fixing of one's own house, especially in cases of plumbing, is often a task anticipated with anxiety but many home owners are pleased with the end results of their diy plumbing repair endeavors.
Diy plumbing repairs that may need to be made by homeowners are clogs, bathroom and kitchen indoor plumbing pipe problems, faulty fixtures such as faucets, leaks in pipes under sinks and in the main piping which can be located in basements and under houses, as well as frozen pipes.
Do-it yourself plumbing requires research and some patience. Research is necessary because there are ways to perform certain plumbing procedures that can be made easier by reading how others have done it first, as well as learning the proper way to work with a sensitive mechanism such as plumbing. Patience is required because a hurried plumbing job spells certain disaster in that plumbing can be a delicate process that when incorrectly done can be extremely costly, especially if problems or malfunctions such as breakage in pipes occurs.
Clogs can be fixed by plunger, or for more serious clogs, the leak may have to be traced to the source in the main line. Most clogs occur in the trap right below the sink, and can be easily remedied by taking the cap to the trap off and cleaning out the clog.
Leaks in piping happen for different reasons, and there are different pipes to take into consideration when attempting to fix a leak. For the most part, pipes can be temporarily fixed by using a pipe clamp. This clamp can be used to stop the leak until the pipes can be looked at to determine what shape they are in and how much of them need to be replaced. A leak can also be replaced by soldering (copper piping). Drain the pipes and make sure no water is present in them before holding the solder to the pipe and fixing the leak.
